Four more art prizes to enter

Looking to exhibit or gain wider exposure for your work? Art prizes can be good springboard to further opportunities, but it can be diificult to keep track of them all - so we've done the hard work for you! Here are four upcoming prizes:

2008 LIBRIS Awards: The Australian Artists’ Book Prize
The Libris Awards are Australia’s premier national artists’ book prize, with prizes being awarded in three categories. Closing date for entries is Friday 12 October 2007.

Uralla Arts Sculpture Prize 2007
The $2 500 prize is acquisitive and the winning sculpture will be placed in a public space within the township of Uralla or surrounding parks. A People’s Choice prize of $200 (non-acquisitive) will also be awarded. Entry forms must be received by Friday 12 October 2007.

2008 Montalto Sculpture Prize
The Montalto Sculpture Prize is a $20 000 acquisitive award; the Pennon Hill people’s choice award $1,000 (non-acquisitive) will also be awarded. Closing date for entries is Monday 29 October 2007.

Paddington Art Prize 2007
The $20 000 acquisitive prize is awarded annually for a contemporary painting inspired by the Australian landscape. Delivery of artwork: Monday 5 November and Tuesday 6 November 2007 between 10 - 6 pm.

2008 Paris studio residency opportunity

FONAS are pleased to announce that applications for the 2008 Storrier Onslow National Art School Residency are NOW OPEN to all NAS teaching/academic/staff, successfully completed final year students and recent graduates.

The residency is a chance to develop upon your studies and practice with artists from different countries in one of the world’s great centres of artistic expression. This year the successful 2008 applicants will receive travel grants which include return economy airfares to Paris.

Pick up an application form from the FONAS Office in building 5 (Mon – Thurs 9:30am – 4:00pm) or from NAS Student Services, Ground floor building 28. Alternatively, you can email fonas@det.nsw.edu.au or phone 02 9339 8635.

Closing date for applications is Friday 26 October 2007.

Apply now for Ian Potter Cultural Trust Grant!

The Ian Potter Cultural Trust seeks to encourage emerging artists with grants of up to $7000.

There is no application form, instead you will need to send a concise 2-3 page letter requesting a grant. There will be further opportunity to apply in early 2008, but applications for the current round close: Monday 17th September 2007.

Are you looking for current information? Bored with just flipping through a seemingly endless pile of magazines? Wish there was a way to search more efficiently? Do you want to know more about how to access information in magazines, journals and newspapers? Heard about ANZRC but don't actually know what it is? Want to access top quality information any time of the day or night from home?

If you answered Yes! to any of these, then do we have the info session for you!

The NAS library is offering 30 minute lunchtime information sessions on how to effectively use catalogues, indexes & databases and the internet.

Come along and find out all about how to search efficiently and effectively using online magazine and journal indexes!

Art competitions and prizes

Do you know about the art competition noticeboard? It is located opposite the journals on the first floor of the library and is kept up to date with information on current art prizes and competitions. The noticeboard provides general information about the various prizes, as well as details on how to enter. There are some really great opportunities - so don't forget to check the noticeboard when you next visit the library.

Here is a taste of what's on offer:

Signature of M Art Prize
This competition is being touted as the ‘largest art competition in Australia to date’ – with a first prize of $150 000 and total prize pool of $180 000, it may just be an accurate claim! The closing date for registration is 29th July 2008, so there is plenty of time to find out more at the website:

Stanthorpe Art Prize 08
This major biennial art prize displays works in contemporary and traditional forms and invites submissions by artists from across Australia. The acquisitions and prizes include $15,000 for the winner of the 2008 acquisitive Stanthorpe Art Prize, $1000 Regional Emerging Art Award, $2000 each for non-acquisitive 2D and 3D works & a $500 non-acquisitive ‘Vollies’ Pick’ Award. Entries close 21st November 2007, more information and entry forms are available for download at:
