Check out Inner West Cultural Services - their program Newtown Art Space provides affordable exhibition space in alternative venues to emerging artists.

Have you heard of Walking the Streets? It's a community arts event that takes place regularly in Newtown. You can contact IWCS about the program here and complete a survey here. Several prizes are awarded through this event.

TAFE loan limit changes

Those of you who borrow directly from TAFE libraries should note that they have introduced a statewide loan limit.

You will now only be able to borrow a total of 15 items from NAS and TAFE combined. The NAS limit has not changed.

SafARI 2008


SafARI 2008 will present emerging and unrepresented artists across Sydney Artist Run Initiative (ARIs) as an unofficial fringe to the 2008 Biennale of Sydney.

2008 Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarships

Attention Painters!!

The Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarship is open to native-born Australians aged 21-35 who are of outstanding ability and promise in one or more categories of the Arts. The scholarships are intended to augment a scholar’s own resources towards a cultural education and may be used for study, maintenance and travel either in Australia or overseas.

The categories in which the scholarships are offered vary from year to year - two scholarships of $18 000 each are offered in the Painting category in 2008.

Art competitions update

2008 Metro 5 Art Award
Open to Australian citizens and permanent residents up to 35 years of age, the Metro 5 Art Award has a prize pool of $50 000. The 2007 competition was won by 2006 NAS Honours student Giles Alexander, so why not follow in his footsteps? Visit the Metro5 Gallery website or check the library art competition noticeboard for details on how to enter.

Linden Postcard Show 2008
The Linden Postcard show is an open entry award exhibition featuring small format contemporary work. You can download an entry form from the website - closing date for entry is 3rd December 2007.

2008 City of Albany Art Prize
Artworks entered into this art prize are to be substantially painted, meaning that other media such as drawing (pencil, pastel, charcoal), printmaking, and collage can be included but only if paint remains the dominant medium. First prize is $25 000 (acquisitive) - closing date for entry is 14th December 2007.
