Call for Artists Open Now Until 23 April 2012
Exhibition 1 September - 14 October $5,000 Rookwood Necropolis Sculpture Award, The Ground Swell Project People's Choice Award Artist at the Armory Award, Peacock Gallery Residency Award
The Anglican and General Cemetery Trusts are partnering with Sydney Olympic Park Authority, Auburn City Council and The GroundSwell Project to create the fourth annual Rookwood Sculpture Walk. The 2012 outdoor exhibition will once again be featured amongst the graves in one of the older sites of the cemetery and neighbouring areas. With views of the city on the horizon, this site offers artists a rare opportunity to showcase their work in an extremely thought provoking context.
Artists who would like to be considered to exhibit in this unique environment are invited to submit an expression of interest. The Trusts request artists address themes appropriate to the site, such as grief, loss, memory, death, mourning, spirituality, religion and heritage as well as the culture around memorial, eulogy, burial and ceremony. Artists can choose to approach these themes in a representational, symbolic or abstract way.
